Abstract

The past ten years have witnessed a renewed interest in the classic anaerobic diseases as well as a host of additional clinical entities caused by one or more anaerobic bacteria. With the renewed interest on the part of clinicians, coupled with the unraveling of the ""mystique' surrounding the technology of anaerobic bacteriology by bacteriologists, it became evident that the time was ripe to bring together the clinical and bacteriological aspects of anaerobic diseases.
